Brandon Sanderson’s “Cosmere Roleplaying Game” has taken the tabletop community by surprise. Originally promoted as “The Stormlight Roleplaying Game,” it was revealed that this project would encompass not just the Stormlight Archive but also the Mistborn series, making it a comprehensive RPG for the entire Cosmere universe. Developed by Brotherwise Games and Dragonsteel Entertainment, the game has sparked immense excitement, quickly raising over $1.5 million on Kickstarter. The project will be released in phases, with Stormlight materials expected in 2025 and Mistborn content in 2026. Despite a high price point, fan enthusiasm is driving the campaign toward becoming one of the year’s most successful crowdfunding efforts. The Cosmere RPG’s Kickstarter has shattered records, raising over $4 million in its first 24 hours, making it the biggest tabletop RPG Kickstarter to date. The game’s success is attributed to the ambitious plans laid out by Brotherwise Games, which include a series of books and a “living RPG” concept that will evolve alongside the ongoing Cosmere stories. Fans can look forward to a d20-based system that integrates the unique magic systems from Sanderson’s books, allowing for a rich, narrative-driven experience across different worlds within the Cosmere.

The winners of the 2024 ENNIE awards at Gen Con have been announced, highlighting excellence across multiple categories such as Best Adventure, Best Art, and Best Game. Shadowdark RPG took the gold for Product of the Year.

D&D YouTubers have faced copyright strikes from Wizards of the Coast over content related to the new D&D Player’s Handbook, causing confusion and concern within the creator community. Some videos have been taken down, while others have been modified to avoid further strikes, raising questions about the communication and policies surrounding the promotion of the new book.

Lastly, Mantic Games continues to expand its popular Deadzone franchise, introducing new factions and 3D printing options as part of their “Summer of Sci-Fi.” The company is engaging the community through a new platform on MyMiniFactory, offering immediate access to STL files and stretch goals for fans who want to enhance their gaming experience with custom terrain and miniatures. This initiative highlights Mantic’s commitment to keeping the Deadzone universe vibrant and accessible to both new and returning players.

The Weekly LIVE 216 – Diablo RPG, Mythic Bastionland, AI War Images, The Electric State, Star Wars RPG Reprints and D&D Streaming Launches

Diablo, the iconic video game, is being adapted into a board game and tabletop RPG by Glass Cannon Unplugged. The tabletop versions will delve into Sanctuary’s lore, offering customizable characters battling demons and angels in a dynamic world. The RPG introduces an inner struggle between Light and Darkness, and Glass Cannon seeks community feedback through a survey.

Simon Stålenhag’s art book sequel, The Electric State, is being made into a tabletop RPG by Free League Publishing in cooperation with Skybound Entertainment. Using the Year Zero Engine, it mirrors the narrative of a runaway teen and her robot in a ’90s US dystopia. The Kickstarter campaign kicks off on December 5th.

Edge Studios is finally re-releasing three Star Wars RPG Beginner Games, each catering to different settings. Each kit supports up to seven players and hopefully will contain the long out-of-print dice. The sets will cost $32.99 each.

In a new venture, Hasbro is entering the streaming world with D&D: Adventures, a Free Ad-supported Streaming TV channel launching on November 13th. The channel features original D&D series like Encounter Party, Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill!, and Heroes’ Feast, aiming to entertain while bringing the gaming audience into Hasbro’s marketing fold. The preview week starts on November 8th, showcasing “legacy Dungeons & Dragons content.”

The Weekly LIVE 139 – The Last Prospector for Stargrave, D&D Beyond Handover, Role Players Doc and Reproductive Rights Bundle

The Last Prospector is a new campaign supplement for the sci-fi tabletop miniatures game Stargrave by creator Joseph McCullough. In this clever approach to a two-player campaign, the ten scenarios are not played in a narrative sequence, but are chosen by the winner of the previous scenario. There is also a Faction Standing mechanic where crews need to have a positive standing with one or more of the six factions in the supplement to receive faction bonuses. This supplement follows the previous Quarantine 37. Stargrave is the scifi sibling to the fantasy-themed Frostgrave. Both games are miniatures agnostic and d20 based. If you like miniatures skirmish games, this is a good as it gets.

WotC takes control of D&D Beyond next week.There will be a request to update permissions and the WotC Terms of Service and they also clarified what will happen to homebrew and other user-generated content. This follows the WotC buyout of D&D beyond earlier this year, but the official transfer of ownership takes place next week. If you have an account, you might notice a few changes. In related news, D&D Beyond will be permanently removing Volo’s Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes on May 17th in favor of the upcoming Monsters of the Multiverse book.

Global documentary studio XTR is working on a brand new documentary about the tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons. Inspired by the spike in popularity the game has experienced since its release of Fifth Edition in the Summer of 2014. This is the first full-fledged film on the subject. The documentary is being called Role Players and will cover everything about the seminal fantasy game from its beginnings to present day. This kind of attention can only add to the current popularity or turn off prospective players by how the community is portrayed.
