Evil Genius Games and Netflix have reached an amicable resolution regarding the canceled Rebel Moon roleplaying game. The lawsuit, which involved a breach of contract claim by Evil Genius Games after Netflix terminated their license, has been settled without disclosing details. Despite the resolution, the Rebel Moon game will not be released. Netflix expressed gratitude for Evil Genius’ work, and the latter assured fans of upcoming cinematic adventures and a new sci-fi project. Retailers who preordered the game will receive information on processing refunds.

Warhammer: The Old World, recently relaunched by Games Workshop, will have a tabletop RPG adaptation by Cubicle 7. While details about the RPG are pending approval, it is expected to explore a new era in the Warhammer universe. Cubicle 7 plans to support both Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition and the new Old World RPG. The lack of concrete information has left fans curious about the differences between the two game systems.

To coincide with the release of Dune: Part 2 in cinemas, Modiphius Entertainment is offering the pre-order for Dune: Fall of the Imperium, a campaign book for the Dune: Adventures in the Imperium roleplaying game. The book follows the events of Frank Herbert’s Dune and lets players experience the rise of Muad’Dib and the fall of the Imperium. The campaign is divided into four acts, each with three adventures, providing players with choices that impact their House’s fate.

Guild Ball, a fantasy football miniatures game by Steamforged Games, is making a return in the form of officially sanctioned print-on-demand files. Steamforged will release updated rules for free, and players can use STL files to print their own copies of the game components, including teams and terrain. The decision to support Guild Ball again comes after the game’s cancellation in 2020 due to reasons including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and a shift in gameplay style in the competitive scene. The files will be available on Steamforged’s website soon.

The Weekly LIVE 192 – Tales of the Valiant, Boardgame Blackmail, Warhammer Old World Armies and Pathfinder Nexus Open Beta

Tales of the Valiant by a Kobold Press is a “remaster of D&D fifth edition” and has launched on Kickstarter, has gone by many names during development. It was first introduced to the world as ‘Project Black Flag’, as an RPG system that uses D&D 5e as its foundation, replicating and revising many of the features Wizards of the Coast made usable through a Creative Commons license. It’s its own game, but the system promises to be fully compatible with D&D books. While Kobold Press’ title was in development as early as summer last year, the world first heard about it during the height of the DnD OGL scandal, when proposed changes to Wizards’ third-party licenses threatened to change how companies like Kobold Press operated.

A controversy involving one of the biggest YouTube board games channels and a board games publisher has had fans worked up over the way communication was handled and the perceived meaning of the interaction. Into the Unknown, the board game developers behind Aeon Trespass: Odyssey have accused Quackalope, a YouTube channel known for board game reviews, of trying to force them into a sponsorship in exchange for avoiding a negative review for their game.

Warhammer the Old World is a game that is coming out… sometime. It’s a game that has a lot of people very excited. It’s also one that we know basically nothing about. A release date is too many the least of our questions, since we don’t have any real idea what the rules will be like. Well this week GW did give us some more info, and opened up a ton of new questions, about the factions. However the information wasn’t met with approval, but instead confused and befuddled a lot of potential players. Let’s take a look at why.

Pathfinder Nexus’ open beta brings the RPG that much closer to digital D&D parity. Free accounts can create and save up to seven discrete characters. A new suite of digital tools from tabletop platform Demiplane wants to make the lives of online-only Pathfinder players a little bit easier. Pathfinder Nexus just launched in open beta, allowing anyone to take advantage of character creation tools and a robust rules compendium.

What would Warhammer without the war be like? What if the green fields of a tabletop ‘battlefield’ were actually an apple orchard, or sheep pen, or a forest full of bugs? Well, there’s a whole online community of wargamers exploring that question, creating pacifist ‘peacegames’ that are delighting hobbyists and their kids alike.

Veteran TTRPG blogger, developer, publisher, and writer Owen K.C. Stephens suffered a pulmonary embolism in February, resulting in his hospitalization. While still recovering from that ailment, he was diagnosed with cancer (initially throught to be early stage 2, then rediagnosed to late stage 1). Though he has every intention of overcoming this challenge and producing game material for years to come, and despite having medical insurance, the medical bills have begun to pile up. The TTRPG industry has come together to create a mega-bundle to help, with all proceeds going to help Owen with those bills.

A retail store in Akihabara will check IDs to prevent adults from buying and reselling Pokémon cards. In the wake of Pokémon cards totally selling out in Japan, it appears that one trading card store in the country’s Akihabara district has adopted some drastic measures: Bar adults from buying cards so kids can enjoy the hobby.

Warzone, the classic tabletop miniatures game of skirmishes in the techno-fantasy universe of Mutant Chronicles, returns with Warzone Eternal! A massively popular miniatures game in the 1990s, Warzone captured the imagination of players with its adrenaline-fueled imagery and its quick and engaging ruleset. Res Nova seeks to recapture that spirit with Warzone Eternal and has assembled a crack team to do so. Warzone Eternal is a fast-playing skirmish miniatures game in which players collect a force representing one of the factions locked in struggle across countless warzones – the powerful megacorporations of Bauhaus, Capitol, Cybertronic, Imperial, and Mishima, the hordes of necrobionic warriors of Algeroth, the Dark Legion Apostle of War, or humanity’s mystic warriors of the Light, the Brotherhood. Through scenario-driven battles, players will engage in the constant covert, or not so covert, fight for supremacy amongst the megacorporations or the never-ending battle against the darkness to preserve humanity – or destroy it.
