Blades ’68 is an official supplement for Blades in the Dark by Tim Denee and Evil Hat Productions, moving the setting forward 100 years into the turbulent 1960s. Set in Doskvol after the end of Unity War III, the world is now shaped by electroplasmic fusion and the so-called Age of Consensus, marked by science, rationality, and consumerism—but unrest simmers beneath the surface. Players take on the roles of scoundrels, spies, and revolutionaries navigating a world of espionage, crime, and counterculture. With themes inspired by 60s thrillers and a fresh take on Blades in the Dark mechanics, Blades ’68 offers a unique blend of intrigue and danger. The playtest is available now, with a preview on DriveThruRPG.

Osprey Games is set to release three new miniature wargames in 2025, covering historical, sci-fi, and prehistoric themes. Pacific Command, arriving in May, is a World War II naval wargame by Mike Hutchinson, focusing on carrier combat in the Pacific with a fog-of-war mechanic and a dice pool system for resolving battles. Voidfighter, launching in August, is a sci-fi dogfighting game by Casey Garske, allowing players to customize ships with unique traits, weapons, and abilities while engaging in fast-paced space combat. Hide, Stone, And Bone, debuting in November, is a prehistoric survival wargame where players lead tribes through hunting, combat, and resource gathering in a dynamic campaign system. Each game offers distinct gameplay mechanics and thematic depth for tabletop enthusiasts.

Helmgast’s Kickstarter campaign for KULT: Divinity Lost – Dark Realms and Other Horrors expands the award-winning horror RPG with four new books: Metropolis, The Illusion and the Borderlands, Scarlet Bride and Other Tales, and Broken Reflections. These sourcebooks and scenario collections deepen the game’s lore, exploring the hidden supernatural reality behind our world, the terrifying boundaries between dimensions, and new horror-driven narratives. Featuring contributions from veteran writers, haunting artwork, and high-quality hardcover editions, this ambitious project caters to fans of KULT‘s dark storytelling. Additional add-ons include Deep Waters, Voices from Beyond the Veil, Exiled Terrors, and The Seeker’s Testament, offering even more chilling content.

Critical Role’s new fantasy RPG, Daggerheart, developed by Darrington Press, is set for release on May 20, 2025, with pre-orders opening the same day. Featuring a card-based mechanic and unique Hope & Fear dice, Daggerheart blends traditional RPG elements with innovative character creation using domains, ancestry, and community cards. The game will be available physically through Daggerheart.com, Darrington Press Guild, and FLGS, while digital editions will be on Demiplane and DriveThruRPG. A limited-edition Core Set with exclusive content will also be available. Alongside the launch, Critical Role will run a Daggerheart miniseries featuring the dark Age of Umbra campaign setting developed by Matt Mercer, inspired by Dark Souls and Kingdom Death: Monster. While speculation continues about Critical Role shifting to Daggerheart for its main campaign, upcoming announcements later this spring will clarify their future plans.

Marvel Comics is losing the publishing rights to Conan the Barbarian. This may not be a bad thing as Conan was most recently introduced into the main Avengers continuity and teamed up with Wolverine and Venom to fight ninjas. He is also a member of the Savage Avengers. No thanks. Marvel first published the character in 1969 in their anthology comics and had a successful series that was true to the original series pulp stories that ran from 1970-1977. Darkhorse Comics also published a series between 2003 and 2017. Hopefully, now out of Marvel’s grasp the character will get some decent treatment. After surviving a never-made Amazon series and Jason Mamoa it can only be up from here.

Batman Gotham City Chronicles is back for a third season of the successful boardgame by Monolith Games on Kickstarter. In addition there will also be a role-playing game with the same setting as the board game. There will be a solo and a cooperative mode for the board game enabling you to play all your existing adventures, an extension with a campaign mode and of course more miniatures. Why an IP as big as Batman would need Kickstarter is anybody’s guess. The character is the only title with decent sales at DC Comics. I think he could go straight to retail. But the fact that you can play the entire game in French may make a few players think twice.

Quest RPG by the Adventure Guild, the rules light beginner friendly fantasy TTRPG, is now completely free in digital form on the publishers website. This may get me to finally read the rules. They have also announced a scifi setting for the same system. Is this a sign of confidence or desperation? Why do we keep talking about this game?

Thirsty Sword Lesbians by April Kit Walsh, Whitney Delagio, Dominique Dickey, Jonaya Kemper, Alexis Sara, and Rae Nedjadi published by Evil Hat Productions won the awrd for Best Game Writing in 2021. It was competing against Coyote & Crow, Granma’s Hand, Wanderhome and Wildermyth nominated in the same category. Is this a good thing for role-playing games or would a Nebula Award Winner sticker not make you look twice at a tabletop game?

Broken Token fires half of their staff as “necessary changes” after a string of contract withdrawals based on accusations of power abuse by former employees against the CEO. He has also stepped away from his position. Duncan Rhodes, the former face of Warhammer painting tutorials, has moved out on his own and along with a YouTube channel is now releasing a new line of paints, named for his recurring advice of “Two Thin Coats”. Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Forgotten Realms, is releasing a new setting for 5E called Tanares. Avatar Legends has a massively successful Kickstarter that has now reached around $10million. Is this a huge success for Magpie Games or have they bitten of more then they can chew? The expectations of backers and the realities of production need to be balanced, but has this project already gotten away from them? #brokentoken #duncanrhodes #magpiegames #tanares #avatarlegends

Kobold Press collects all of their 5E material into Tome of Heroes. This will give players the choice of 10 new races and 50 subclasses. The new hardcover book is currently on Kickstarter and includes both new and previously published material. Omnichromatic Pirate Unicorn Games has published a guide to Intellectual Property in RPGs. It is currently pay-what-you-want on DriveThruPRG. This is a useful overview of what can be protected and what cannot in the world of RPG design and development. Tiny Library is also currently on Kickstarter. It is an anthology of TTRPGs that can be printed on a single standard size playing card (both sides) and all 50 games can be yours for US$10. John Harper, the creator of the Blades in the Dark RPG, recently tweeted that Warp Films is currently developing a TV series based his RPG setting. Evil Hat Publishes the RPG and no further details have been released regarding dates or platform. There have also been rumors of an Exalted TV series in development based on the RPG of the same name. Is this a new trend in mining ideas for the creatively bankrupt entertainment industry? Are comic books yesterday’s bananas? Remember the Fox TV series based on White Wolf’s Kindred: The Embraced?
