Cyberpunk Edgerunners: Combat Zone Miniatures Game is inspired by the animated series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” this miniatures game by Monster Fight Club, R. Talsorian Games, and CD Projekt Red offers fast-paced skirmishes in Night City. The game utilizes Monster Fight Club’s [RE]action game engine for responsive gameplay, allowing characters to act dynamically without rigid turn structures.

Players can choose between embodying the Edgerunners or the Arasaka Corporation’s cyber-enhanced suits, each with distinct abilities. The starter box includes figures, cards, a game board, terrain, and various components for gameplay customization. The game’s release date is yet to be announced.

Humble Bundle launches the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: The Enemy Within Humble Bundle. Cubicle 7’s remastered five-part campaign “The Enemy Within” is offered in a Humble Bundle, along with other Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay materials. A portion of the proceeds from the bundle supports Children’s Health Ireland. The bundle includes various books and adventures, offering an extensive library for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay enthusiasts. LEGO reveals its first Dungeons & Dragons set, the “D&D Red Dragon’s Tale,” developed in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast. The set features a tavern, dungeon, tower, and a buildable red dragon named Cinderhowl, along with six LEGO minifigures and other brick-built monsters. Wizards of the Coast provides a bespoke adventure for the set, available for LEGO Insiders as a free digital download. The set will be priced at $359.99 and released on April 4, 2024, with pre-orders expected to open soon.

The 2nd Edition of Free League’s Sci-Fi RPG Coriolis, titled The Great Dark, was launched on Kickstarter and achieved rapid success, reaching its funding goal within seven minutes. The game promises a fresh take on space exploration, featuring enigmatic ruins, ancient gods, and dangers lurking in the depths of outer space. Players take on the role of explorers venturing into the Great Dark, facing challenges like the cataclysmic Blight while seeking artifacts and knowledge to save their home, Ship City. The game draws inspiration from 19th-century polar expeditions, deep-sea diving, and pulp archaeology, emphasizing mystery, wonder, and stunning visuals. The rule system is based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, offering mechanics for character generation, combat, exploration, and expeditions. The Kickstarter campaign also offers a boxed campaign setting, The Flowers of Algorab, and various exclusive backer rewards.

The passing of RPG legend James M. Ward, known for his contributions to Dungeons & Dragons, Metamorphosis Alpha, and other seminal games, was announced, marking a significant loss for the RPG community.

Steamforged Games and Kobold Press have teamed up to develop a new Starter Set for the Tales of the Valiant 5E Fantasy RPG, a project building upon the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules. While details about the contents of the set are currently scarce, the collaboration aims to enhance the introductory experience for new players. Both companies are renowned in the tabletop gaming industry, and their joint effort seeks to make tabletop roleplaying more accessible.

Ninja Division, a miniatures game publisher, has filed for bankruptcy, leaving thousands of Kickstarter backers without their pledged rewards.

Daggerheart, a beginner-friendly fantasy RPG from Critical Role’s Darrington Press, has launched its public playtest, offering players a chance to experience its original gameplay mechanics before its full release in 2025.

Awaken Realms withdrew AI-generated promotional images for its Puerto Rico 1897 Special Edition crowdfunding campaign after Ravensburger, the game’s licensor, intervened. The campaign faced criticism for its use of AI-generated artwork. Despite this setback, the campaign replaced the images with a blurred version of the box cover from a previous release of Puerto Rico 1897 and a plastic sculpt of a ship. The remaining campaign imagery featured photography from Awaken Realms’ previous project with Ravensburger, Castles of Burgundy.

Renegade Game Studio revived Heroscape with a new master set and starter kit, addressing past failures in the game’s relaunch by offering lower-priced options and emphasizing organized play. The new releases for Heroscape include both painted and unpainted miniatures, providing options for players and collectors alike.

The Weekly LIVE 232 – Chaosium Design Challenge, Dune Bundle, Grimdark CoD, Mass Effect Board Game and Alien Nexus

Chaosium, the creator of Call of Cthulhu and RuneQuest, is hosting the Basic Roleplaying: Universal Game Engine Design Challenge, offering a total of $10,000 in cash prizes to amateur tabletop RPG designers. The challenge invites participants worldwide to create new tabletop titles using Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying engine. Contest entries must use the 2023 release of the Basic Roleplaying: Universal Game Engine core book, and entrants can submit digital or physical projects. The goal is to financially assist new designers, and shortlisted entries have the chance to be published. The submission window is open until May 31st, with prizes including $500 for 10 shortlisted projects and additional cash prizes for the top three winners.

Humble is offering a comprehensive Dune: Adventures in the Imperium TTRPG bundle for $18, featuring core rulebooks, character sheets, and other supplementary materials worth $200. The bundle includes everything needed for the Dune tabletop setting, with PDFs for various components. As part of the Season 2 Reloaded update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, a collaboration with Warhammer 40,000 brings three new Warhammer-themed Store Bundles. Inspired by Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, and the Astra Militarum, these bundles feature Operator Skins, melee weapons, Weapon Blueprints, and custom tracers. Additionally, a new Juggermosh game mode is introduced, with Space Marines participating. Modiphius has announced a new Mass Effect board game called “Mass Effect: the Board Game – Priority: Hagalaz.” Designed by Eric M. Lang and Calvin Wong Tze Loon, the co-operative, story-driven game is set during the events of Mass Effect 3. Players control Shepard, Liara, Tali, Wrex, and Garrus on a mission to prepare an ancient alien superweapon, the Crucible, to defeat the Reapers. The game features a branching narrative campaign, card-driven AI, and evolving stories that respond to players’ actions. The board game allows for 1-4 players, with highly detailed plastic miniatures of the characters.

Demiplane and Free League Publishing have introduced “Alien RPG Nexus,” a digital platform for Alien: The Roleplaying Game. This platform offers a full digital suite for campaigns, including rulebooks, character sheets, and dice. Alien RPG Nexus aims to provide an easily accessible way to run campaigns and features everything needed for players to engage with the Alien franchise in a digital format.

Modiphius has announced the release of the second edition of Star Trek Adventures, a tabletop roleplaying game originally launched in 2017. The new edition, set to launch at Gen Con 2024, includes a core rulebook and expansions. It remains compatible with first edition supplements. The game allows players to explore the Star Trek universe across different eras, featuring original characters and starships. The second edition introduces diversity with playable non-Federation species and expands gameplay possibilities. Modiphius, in collaboration with Paramount Consumer Products, adds content from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Prodigy. The updated 2d20 System rules maintain authenticity and compatibility with previous supplements.

Ultra PRO plans to release Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary accessories, including Heavy Metal Dice, a Dice Tower, and more, celebrating D&D’s milestone year. The accessories feature a golden color theme and will be available in the summer of 2024.

In a groundbreaking move, China’s Guangzhou Internet Court issued the world’s first legally binding verdict on copyright infringement by an AI-generated service. The court ruled against an AI company for infringing on Ultraman’s copyright and adaptation rights during generative AI services, holding it liable for civil damages. The defendant’s AI-generated images substantially copied the original Ultraman work without permission. The judgment emphasized the duty of care for generative AI service providers and specified the need for clear user awareness of copyright risks. The court aimed for a balance between rights protection and industry development, ruling that the defendant compensate the plaintiff 10,000 yuan ($1,389).
